Scholvia is proud to announce our first partnership beyond Southeast Asia — with the Uzbekistan State World Languages University (UzSWLU) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
This partnership opens a distinctly different pathway for students whose interests centre on languages, translation, and international relations rather than the business and health sciences that dominate the Malaysian route.
About UzSWLU
UzSWLU was established in 1949 as the Tashkent State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages. In 1992, following Uzbekistan's independence, it merged with the Republican Institute of Russian Language and Literature and was reorganised into its current form.
Today the university serves more than 19,000 students and is recognised as Uzbekistan's leading institution in foreign languages and linguistics.
Programmes Available
UzSWLU offers 26 undergraduate programmes and 19 master's specialisations, with instruction available in approximately 20 foreign languages:
- World Languages including English, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish
- Linguistics and Applied Linguistics
- Translation and Interpreting Studies
- Foreign Language Teaching and Pedagogy
- Intercultural Communication
- International Journalism
Instruction is delivered in English, Uzbek, and Russian depending on the programme.
International Standing
UzSWLU cooperates with more than 180 higher education institutions worldwide, spanning the United States, Europe, Arab countries, Africa, and CIS states.
The university maintains partnerships with the British Council, DAAD (Germany), Alliance Française, KOICA (Korea), JICA (Japan), and TIKA (Turkey), alongside embassies and official representative offices in Uzbekistan.
Joint educational programmes currently run with the Digital University of Japan, Moscow State Linguistic University, and Adyghe State University. Graduates of these programmes are eligible to receive diplomas from both institutions.
The US Embassy in Uzbekistan financially supports an annual international conference on English language teaching, and the British Council partners on the PRESETT project.

An Honest Note
UzSWLU is a public Uzbek university. Degree recognition in Indonesia follows the same Kemendikbudristek penyetaraan process as any foreign qualification. Uzbekistan is also considerably further from Indonesia than Malaysia — roughly nine hours by air with connections, versus two hours direct to Kuala Lumpur. Travel home is less frequent and more expensive. This is a strong option for the right student — we will be direct with you about whether that describes your situation.
