Scholvia Partners with Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM)

Scholvia is proud to announce our partnership with Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) — widely known as Malaysia's Management University and one of the country's leading public institutions.

This is the first public university in Scholvia's partner network, opening a distinctly different option for students seeking lower fees and strong government accreditation.

About UUM

Established on 16 February 1984, UUM is a non-profit public university officially recognised by Malaysia's Ministry of Higher Education. It was founded with a specific mandate: to specialise in management education, and it has held that focus ever since.

The main campus sits in Sintok, Kedah — a 1,061-hectare fully residential campus surrounded by tropical forest and mountains. UUM also operates a Kuala Lumpur campus.

Fees and Intakes

Tuition fees for international students: approximately RM 8,400 – RM 33,600 per year depending on programme and level.

As a public university, UUM's fees sit substantially below most Malaysian private universities — often less than half.

• Intakes: three per year — January, May, and September

Scholarships

UUM offers financial support for international students through several schemes:

• Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS) — government-funded, for postgraduate study
• UUM International Scholarships
• UUM Tunku Abdul Rahman Scholarship

Why UUM for Indonesian Students?

UUM has a notably strong track record with Indonesian students. In the 2025/2026 academic year, UUM accepted 110 international undergraduate students — 81 of whom came from Indonesia.

That concentration means the administrative process is familiar to UUM staff, and an established Indonesian student community is already in place.

• Lower cost of living in Kedah compared to Kuala Lumpur or Selangor

An Honest Note

As a public university, UUM's admission requirements are more competitive than private institutions. Strong academic results matter more here than at private universities that operate more flexible entry criteria.

The Sintok campus is also considerably more remote than Kuala Lumpur — around 48 km north of Alor Setar. This keeps living costs low but means fewer urban amenities and a longer journey home during breaks.
