Scholvia Partners with Universiti Islam Selangor (UIS)

Scholvia is proud to announce our partnership with Universiti Islam Selangor (UIS) — a private Islamic university in Bandar Seri Putra, Bangi, and an institution with particular relevance for graduates of Indonesian pesantren and madrasah.

About UIS

UIS is wholly owned by the Selangor Islamic Religious Council — Majlis Agama Islam Selangor, or MAIS — and operates under Malaysia's Private Higher Educational Institutions Act 1996.

The institution traces a continuous lineage across three names. It was founded on 15 February 1995 as Kolej Islam Selangor Darul Ehsan (KISDAR), became Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (KUIS) on 31 December 2004, and was upgraded to full university status as UIS on 14 October 2022, when the Sultan of Selangor presented the instrument of upgrade at Istana Bukit Kayangan.

Its motto is Pemangkin Tradisi Ilmu — the catalyst of the knowledge tradition.

UIS states its purpose as producing dai, ulama, and umara — preachers, scholars, and leaders.

Programmes Available

UIS operates five faculties offering 83 MQA-accredited programmes at Foundation, Diploma, Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD levels:

  • Syariah
  • Usuluddin
  • Quran and Sunnah Studies
  • Islamic Finance and Banking
  • Education
  • Communication and Broadcasting
  • Information Technology
  • Business Management and Administration
  • Accounting and Finance
  • Law
  • Languages
  • Social Sciences

The combination of classical Islamic disciplines alongside contemporary professional fields is the institution's defining characteristic.

Why UIS for Indonesian Students?

The fit here is specific and worth stating plainly.

Indonesia has the largest pesantren system in the world. Graduates emerge with substantial grounding in Arabic, Quranic studies, fiqh, and Islamic jurisprudence — an academic foundation that most universities, including most Malaysian universities, are not designed to build upon.

UIS is designed exactly for that. A pesantren graduate entering UIS is not starting over in an unfamiliar discipline. They are continuing in a system that recognises what they already know.

Additional considerations:

  • MAIS ownership means institutional backing from the Selangor state religious authority
  • Bangi-Kajang corridor location, well connected to Kuala Lumpur
  • Programmes in Islamic finance connect classical training to a growing professional sector
  • Education faculty relevant for graduates intending to teach in Indonesian Islamic schools
  • Fees typically lower than mainstream private universities

A Note on Recognition

For graduates of Islamic religious universities, degree equivalency in Indonesia is processed through the Ministry of Religious Affairs via the SIPIKO application rather than through Kemendikbudristek's general pathway. This is a different process, not a harder one, but worth knowing before you enrol. We will explain the specifics during consultation.

  • Assessment of how pesantren or madrasah qualifications map to UIS entry requirements
